It has been a long time since this tragedy visited the Flint area. Sharing with you an article that appeared on CNN website. I spent some time with the journalists to help make sure the retelling of the case was accurate.
It dawned on me that many people under 30 might have yet to hear of this case and its significance. The case helped drive public consensus to encourage then-President Bill Clinton and Congress to do something about guns in America.
That something was to extend the assault weapons ban for ten years. That ban has expired; as a direct and foreseeable result, we now see one deadly school shooting after another. The dead bodies of innocents pile up in the hallways of elementary schools.
This is true all while our elected leaders present phony legislation and nonsense arguments about guns not killing people. Legislators of both political parties are deeply engaged in the politics of corruption.
The American gun lobby and its front group, the NRA, have perpetuated violent gun deaths of children like Kayla Rolland's by selling to the American public and its representatives the phony logic that what is needed to stop more violence is even more guns. Such logic is outrageously evil and self-serving. Yes, the NRA has successfully sold more and deadlier weapons by the millions.
It's time to put an end to this madness.
The country has come to the point of deciding if it wants to sacrifice our children so a few gun company executives can continue to profit off the blood of our children. What are you going to do about it?
